Intro.

The creative work presented on this blog shows my ability to work with a variety of different equipment, software and materials to achieve a strong creative outcome no matter what the subject may be. During college I have always pushed myself to produce aesthetically pleasing final pieces despite the fact I may not like the subject. Yes, I found some topics less exciting and enjoyable, but this did not stop me finishing the project and gaining a high grade. I particularly enjoy working with Illustrator. Although my skills may not be totally perfect they are always improving as I can appreciate with the results and development of my work throughout the year.

I have always been interested in art and drawing. As I progressed to college level I explored on a new style of creative art, graphic design. Since the beginning of this course I have constantly worked hard towards my ultimate career aim, producing a strong varied portfolio and building on my existing skills. I am extremely dedicated, self-motivated and focused. I can work within a group/team, and also using my own initiative, which is an important skill, needed in a world of graphic design.

I really want to progress onto this course, as I am determined to pursue my career dreams and improve my talents and skills. This course is the way I could finally combine a subject I thoroughly enjoy with a paid profession. I know this is not going to be achieved over night which is why I feel the need to take my creative work onto a higher level to improve my skills and prepare myself for an exciting and challenging career.

1970's sketchbook.



Above is a page from my 1970's punk sketchbook. This whole sketchbook is designed in the punk style.
I covered many topics from this era such as the influences of the time, punk fashion, problems of the time and punk art and design.



1960's sketchbook.



This is a page from my 1960's sketchbook. This assignment I really enjoyed as I was able to boost my existing knowledge on influential art and design from the past and re-create it's style in my research. I really love the brightness and the 'funkyness' of the era. I feel that the print and design of this time really began the competition of the graphic design industry. 



Digital illustrations.

These two digital illustrations began as a photograph I shot in the photography studio.
By using Adobe Illustrator I created these two vector illustrations which I then used in my fashion assignment.

Doodle.

Above is a doodle I have created using fineliner pens. I love creating doodle as you can be as creative as you like and include anything you like whether it related to a memory or a random thought.

With this doodle I wanted to create a cartoon style. To do this I used a thicker black pen to draw bold outlines.
This is one of my favourite doodles I have produced as I have given careful thought to each small section I drew.

British Music Experience.

The design above is a poster for the British Music Experience.
As the BME is an exhibition about the history of music I decided to create a pixelated image for the focal point, this relates to the history of music linked with the progression of design.
This image I coloured the same as the logo so it symbolises the BME and the flag of Great Britain.

David Foldvari style.

The illustration above is based upon the style of David Foldvari.
I have chosen a recent important issue which is the rise in university fees.
In Foldvari's work he uses simple outlines and with little colour which really stands out against a pale backwash.

Fur project.

The poster design above I created for a live brief  based around animal cruelty. In this particular case it was to advertise against rabbit fur. Rather than a shocking charity campaign I wanted to display a true, emotional fact about this trade to give people a reason to donate. To link with the softer style of my advertising I created a digital illustration of rabbits ears (symbolising rabbits) imprisoned in a cage. The slogan 'Life sentenced to cruelty' relates strongly to the rabbits lives as they spend they're whole lifetime trapped in they're own filth to finally be brutally murdered.

Cleveland car conversions.

The designs above I created outside of college for a friend.
As this person is known for his car I decided to use an image of his car as the logo.
I am very happy with my logo outcome for this as it has been used in many situations such as, stickers, flyers and web-based graphics. The flyer above has been used to advertise his company in popular car shows/events across the country and also for everyday advertising locally.

Grafik cover.



This is a magazine cover I created for 'Grafik' magazine.
Firstly I sketched out a number of doodles using as much colour and shape variations as possible.
I chose the pattern above because the pattern is very abstract and bright.
I feel the plain white background draws attention to the coloured areas much more easily than a coloured background as this would distract attention from the featured graphic.



Illustration.




This Illustration I created for a recent assignment named doodle.
I wanted to create my own illustration which incorporated a doodle drawing with a fashion model image. I found an image from a fashion magazine and then sketched out the facial outlines and features. To this inital sketch I added my own abstract styled patterns and inked over them. With water I washed over my outlines to give a watercolour effect to the piece and finally I selected small sections to colour. As the overall colour scheme is quite bleak my coloured areas really jump out from the page.
